Behaviour and the Law (Foundation CYP/ACS) Theory

This programme consists of two elements, the legal framework and the theory of de-escalation. It supports staff to gain a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities and to cope with all levels of behaviour. For many people, understanding the triggers of challenging behaviour and how to deal with it is essential if they are to carry out their daily duties safely. It focusses on de-escalation and intervention at an early stage to reduce the need for restrictive practices. It is underpinned by clear articulation and behavioural theory, law and best practise. Each programme is consistently updated to reflect Government policies and new thinking.

Theory programme:

  • Legal aspects around our rights and responsibilities
  • Potential causes of difficult behaviour
  • Methods to identify strategies that de-escalate the situation
  • Incident recording, risk assessment and proactive planning

This is a whole day course. This programme is a pre-requisite to any physical de-escalation training.
